David S. Crockett passed away unexpectedly due to complications from an injury at home. Born to Newkirk and Nancy S. Crockett (both deceased), he is survived by his daughter, Madeleine Crockett-Fabry of Carlsbad, CA, his sister, Dorcas Crockett of New Britain, CT, and his two nieces Tiffany and Brittany Crockett. He and Victoria Fabry were married for 22 years, and although they separated, they remained close friends for the rest of his life.
David was raised in West Hartford, CT, and earned his Bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University before completing a Master’s degree in Education at the University of Connecticut. He began his career teaching middle and high school botany and agriculture, later specializing in Special Education Instruction. David spent two and a half years living and working in southern France before relocating to the Carlsbad-Oceanside area of California, where he resided for the past 31 years.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, David had a passion for gardening, hiking, swimming, tennis, and cross-country skiing. He particularly enjoyed camping and taking long walks along the beach or through California’s parks with his daughter, Madeleine, who was the apple of his eye. David also had a deep love for music, particularly jazz and blues, which brought him great joy throughout his life.
David was known for his warmth and ability to connect with everyone he met. He had a great sense of humor and was a man of deep faith. David sang in the church choir and was actively involved in the church garden. His commitment to helping others extended beyond his church; he volunteered with numerous nonprofit organizations throughout San Diego County, offering support to those in need and always looking out for people who needed help.
A Celebration of Life for David was held on July 27, 2024. He is remembered with much love and is deeply missed by all who knew him. Please share a memory or make a donation in his honor to Brother Benno’s, the non-profit organization David did significant volunteer work at, or to the American Heart Association to help fight heart disease.
