John Ian Poulson

Known for his fierce loyalty, boundless love, and spirited nature, John was a force to be reckoned with, a man who lived life with a fiery passion for family, friends, nature, and his favorite teams.

John was born in England. Until the age of 4 he lived on Cargo Ships. then he moved to Antwerp Belgium and attended the American school in Ekeren. At the age of 7 he moved to the US with his family to Middletown (Lincroft), NJ. John attended Stockton University where he studied economics and business.

He excelled early in sports as a kid, but his passion was in the arts and music. He always carried intense passion for the things that he enjoyed and gave him joy. This intensity extended to his love for his family, who were his greatest pride and his truest home. As the eldest brother of the three, he always kept a watchful eye out for his younger brothers and had their backs if they ever found themselves in a bind. His close friends were kept as family and he never hesitated to back them in any situation. He was a soft-spoken passionate and fierce man, but to his nephews, he was Uncle John - a warm, gentle, fun-loving uncle who would always be quick to play with them. John also brought his fire to his fanhood, where his heart beat for the Mets, the Jets, and his beloved Newcastle United. A true fan through thick and thin, he was known to passionately debate every play, trade, and season outcome. His cheers—and the occasional colorful language - were enough to shake the house most game days. He proudly wore his team’s colors, embodying the tenacity and loyalty they inspired in him. As a partner, John was devoted, protective, and deeply loving. He was the kind of person who would go to the ends of the earth for those he loved, and he filled every day with warmth, a wry smile and endless memories. Friends and family alike.

John is survived by his parents John and Christina Poulson, his siblings Andrew, Peter, his sisters in-law Kirsten and Kathryn, his partner Cassandra, his nephews, Hendrix, Wyatt, Axel and Wade plus extended family members in the UK who adored him. His family will miss his presence and his fierce love, but they will carry his legacy forward, finding him in every Newcastle goal, Mets win and every beautiful, art-filled landscape he would have loved.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17th, 2024 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at Ocean Funeral Home.
