Arthur Weston

It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur “Pops” Weston, 95, announces his passing on November 11th, 2024. He spent his final days comfortably in his home that he shared with his loving wife Hermine until her passing and frequently visited by his children and grandchildren.

Arthur was a loving husband to Hermine for 69 years, devoted Father to Donnie, Mark, Ross and Kenny, Grandfather to Arielle, Hillary, Emily, Evan, Becca, Aydan, Zeke, Owen, Connor, and Sami as well as Great Grandfather to Oliver.

Arthur grew up in Long Branch on the Jersey Shore, working as a young man as a lifeguard and as a teenager launched his first business of many as a beach club car parking service. An excellent student, Arthur was advanced thru two grades and entered college at the age of 16. He attended Rutgers University where he graduated with a BA in Business. After completing his degree, he entered the army where he earned the rank of Corporal. It was at his first job working in New York that Arthur met Hermine, the woman who would become his wife and the love of his life. Arthur and Hermine eventually married and settled in NJ and Arthur joined his father and brother Bob in his father’s financial investment business, I George Weston & Sons. Arthur bought the brokerage firm from his father and grew the business to new heights as one of the first remote trading operations outside of Wall St. Though Arthur worked hard he was also a devoted father and husband, who planned Sunday family mystery drives, found time to play catch with his 4 boys, and sought out adventure and new experiences for himself and the family including building a ski chalet on a ski area in Vermont and suffering the weekly drive with 4 wild boys and often guest to reach the snow covered mountain top. And though not a natural athlete, Arthur was game to try new things and learned to become a competent skier, surfer, and for a brief time owned and drove a snow mobile.

Ever the entrepreneur Arthur worked with his wife to create several businesses that they grew to great financial success and personal satisfaction. In addition, Arthur never lost his passion for investing and teaching others about the benefits of dollar cost averaging and long-term investing. After retirement he enjoyed participating in a community investing club and played an active role in the group – often crafting regular update letters with hot stock picks, reporting on economic trends and opportunities.

After family and business Arthur enjoyed time in his gardens both planning and planting. He even learned dry stone masonry and built custom walks and walls from repurposed brick. As the kids grew older Arthur and Hermine sought travel as their favorite pastime, beginning with regular visits to hidden jewels of the Caribbean like Little Dix Bay, and gradually trips across the globe on land and sea, to exotic destinations like Hong Kong and Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand, Africa, Australia, much of Europe, and South America. He loved nothing more than being on a cruise ship with Hermine. Arthur loved music and time spent in the car on family drives to their Vermont ski lodge meant listening and singing alone to his favorites including rock operas (Joseph and the Technical Color Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Super Star, Tommy by Who), and the Moody Blues, Simon & Garfunkel, Peter, Paul & Mary and some many others.

Together with Hermine, Arthur gave of his time to many causes and charities including the Masons which he joined as a young man, the Fresh Air Fund, which he established a local chapter of and ran for many years, organized local families who hosted inner city children for summer vacations, and McDonald House that he and Hermine were active fund raisers and organizers for many years.

Arthur was a humble and brilliant man who lived a long and spirited life, accomplishing what many only dream of. He quietly stood behind and was proud of his kids through ups and downs, and played a special role in the lives of his grandchildren, often reading story books and taking them on vacations to wonderful destinations. He was proud of his family and passionately in love with his wife Hermine. He will be forever held dear in our hearts and remembered…Pops you will live on in our memories forever.

Arthur was pre-deceased by his loving wife Hermine and his brother Robert.

A memorial service and celebration of Arthur’s life will be held on Thursday November 14th at 11:00, at Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels 2130 Highway 35, Ocean, NJ. Followed by a burial service at Temple Beth Miriam Memorial Park, Neptune, N.J.
