Joshua was affectionately known as Seymour to those who knew and loved him. He was born in St. Mary Parish and later moved to Clarendon Parish with employment at Monymusk. Seymour moved to New York in the early 1970’s and transitioned to Ocala in 1988.
Seymour was an avid repairman. He was infamous for making all repairs with black electrical tape, painting it to match the repair. He was also a lifelong lover of the racetrack. He took great pleasure in watching and discussing thoroughbred racing. He was a music aficionado. His favorites ranged from Brook Benton, Engelbert Humperdinck and Johnny Ace.
Seymour is preceded in death by his parents, Ubert and Ruth James, two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Bernice “Bern” James, his sons, Jason James and Stewart “George” (Tanya) Sappleton; daughters, Dhalia Boreland, Marian (Lenford) Bird, Doriana (Guillermo) Riney, Lorna (David) John; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and extended family and friends.
A visitation for Seymour will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 South Pine Avenue, Ocala, Florida 34480. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM. A committal service will occur after the service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
