James K. "Jim" Evans was called to his eternal home on March 4, 2013. He was born in Milan, GA on April 12, 1931 but grew up in Tampa, FL. He married Hazel L. Albritton and entered the Air Force where he served with distinction as a JAG supervisor abroad and in the U.S. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and while stationed in Alaska, he also raced snow mobiles. Jim, Hazel and daughter Lynda returned to Tampa where Jim retired from the Air Force and began a new career with the Hillsborough Sheriffs Dept., serving in the Judicial Services Bureau. After the death of Hazel, he later married Virginia Rhodes of Ocala. While living in Tampa, they attended and graduated from Word of Faith Bible Institute and served faithfully in their church. Upon his retirement from HCSD in 1987, they moved to Ocala. Ever the public servant, he began a third career with the Marion County Sheriff's Dept, as a court room bailiff, serving until 2001. His love of hunting drew him to Georgia. The simple, quiet, country life captured his heart and so they maintained homes there and in Ocala. His joy was in serving others and he worked tirelessly in the Adrian Blackville Church of God to feed and care for the needy. He was a man full of love and commitment; to His Lord, to his family and to those around him.
Jim's/Pepa's passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family. He was preceded by his loving wife of 25 years, Hazel and son, David Rhodes. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Virginia; daughters, Lynda Evans, Deb (Rock) Gibboney; son, Tom (Chris) Rhodes; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Wooten; and last but not least, his precious dog, Alley.
Services celebrating his earthly life will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 5740 S. Pine Ave., Ocala, FL 34480.
