Felicita Reyes, age 78, of Rio Grande Puerto Rico, died peacefully in her sleep October 19, 2024, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s and cancer. We bid farewell to a great Christian woman who led a life of faith and prayer, ever knowing that Jesus is real. She is survived by her sister Carmen Reyes of Gouldsboro, PA and her brother Josue Reyes of Ocala, FL. She was predeceased by her father Juan Reyes who passed away in 1989 and her mother Justina Reyes Bonano who passed away in 2013 at the age of 99. She was also predeceased by her brother and four sisters, Julio Reyes, Maria Reyes, Rosa Rodriguez, Regina Rosado and Juana Reyes Bonano.
She leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Fela was born on September 9, 1946, in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico to the daughter of Juan and Justina Reyes and grew up there until moving to The Bronx, NY when she was 8 years old. She attended New York City Public School 29.
Fela would always volunteer her time to take care of her siblings. She would always do whatever her mother would ask of her. She was a lovely and kind person. Often very shy when meeting anyone new, but was also open to many who loved her very much
In 1976 at the age of 30, her and her family moved back to Puerto Rico to San Isidro. For 13 years she lived there with her parents until she moved to Ocala, FL after the passing of her father. She lived 24 years with her mother until her passing in 2013. Fela was 67 at the time. After her mother’s passing, she moved up the street to live with her sister Juana Reyes and lived with her until 2020. Juana, her husband Jose and Fela all moved to Worcester, MA. to be closer to family. Juana was Fela’s main caregiver for 11 years until she died in February of 2024. After the passing of her brother-in-law, Jose, in May 2024, Fela moved back to Puerto Rico to a nursing home.
Fela loved spending time with her family. She loved children and was always attentive when they were around. Singing gospel songs with her sisters would always bring joy to everyone around her. Fela loved ice cream especially while watching tv for hours on end. She will be greatly missed by her whole family. And a special thanks to everyone who cared for her at the nursing home Hogar Tesoro Hills in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 9am to 12p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 South Pine Avenue, Ocala, FL. 34480. Her service will be held at 12pm. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 1pm.
