Chris served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic. During his service he sent home his paychecks and had his dad buy him a yellow 1970 CJ5, which he still has to this day.
Santa Monica is where Chris would meet his soon-to-be wife, Laura, while on a four wheel drive trip to Red Rock Canyon. They married in January 1974 and bought a home in Ahwahnee California where they raised their two kids, Jamie and Blake.
Chris found work at Clovis Ford, but after being laid off he went and got a job at what is now called Mountain Comforts. He worked there for 38+ years alongside his wife, Laura, and son, Blake.
Chris loved all things that involved engines and wheels. NASCAR being his favorite. Throughout his life he raced broncos in the desert, played and built buggies, rode three-wheelers, and loved camping. All of which involved his family and friends.
Chris is survived by his wife Laura, daughter Jamie Barnes Wright (Shane), son Blake Barnes (Caitlin), grandkids Kayla, Kelsey, Cayden and Willow. He is also survived by his brothers Steve Barnes and Jobe Conrad and sister Deanna Rathmann, his other mom Sharon Barnes and countless Iowa family whom he cherished.
He is preceded in death by his dad, mom and brother, Scott
