“I lived a full and happy life” Yvonne K. Spanos
Yvonne K. Spanos had a heart for everyone she met. She always made everyone feel celebrated and special. Three things mattered to her most… her family, her faith, and her life-long career as a dancer, dance instructor and choreographer. Yvonne’s dream was to dance on Broadway. Studying under acclaimed instructors Edna Macrae, grand dame of the Chicago ballet community and Tommy Sutton, Master teacher and Leading authority on the Art of Tap Dancing, amongst others she excelled in her career of the arts. At the young age of 17 she traveled through Europe entertaining troupes for the USO (United Service Organizations) with beloved friend and confidant Delores Graf, with their dance act called “Dot and Dash,”. With a career spanning over 65 years she always said “I am doing what I love”. She took great pride in working with Art Linkletter Dance studio, Wood Dale Park District, Elmhurst Park District, Bloomingdale Park District, and other talent shows and competitions.
In October of 1959, Yvonne married the true love of her life, her handsome husband, Harry Spanos. Together, they created a beautiful, loving, adventurous, accomplished life. After seven years of marriage, their “miracle baby,” Stephen, was born, completing their family. Yvonne always had a way of sharing detailed stories of her life’s experiences with a touch of humor, for family and friends, expressing the fullness of her heart, with love and appreciation. Yvonne made every day at her beautiful home, a unique and welcome experience for all of her guests, greeting everyone with warm hugs at the front door. Her home was the gathering place for most holidays and special occasions. Yvonne was grateful for the lasting friendship of her church family, and frequently enjoyed singing in the choir. As a dancer, instructor, and choreographer, Yvonne made lasting impressions on thousands of students, and loved each and every one of them dearly. Everyone loved “Miss Yvonne.” Yvonne’s compassionate, kind, gentle and charitable heart for people will be lovingly remembered.
May her memory be eternal.
