Donald Harrison Ross, Chief Warrant Officer W-4 USNR Retired, age 91, died peacefully June 3, 2015. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota he was the youngest of 3 children born to Walter and Anna Ross. He resided in St. Cloud Minnesota for 16 years prior to entering the US Navy. Don graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School as a member of the National Honor Society also lettering in football.
Don served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a Communication Cryptologic Specialist in the Pacific area. Don retired from the US Naval Reserve after 42 years of Active and Reserve Naval Service as a Communication Cryptologic Officer at Great Lakes Naval Station. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Naval Officers Reserve Association, and the National Organization Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association.
Prior to joining Rockwell Standard International Corporation in Chicago as the Safety Director he attended St. Cloud State Teachers College and Northwestern University. In 1964 Don began his career with the Kitchens of Sara Lee. Don retired from the Sara Lee Corporation (Bakery Division) as the Corporate Safety and Security Director after 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years Katherine (nee Spiro). He was a loving father of 3 children- Bruce H. Ross (wife-Ann), Nancy P. Kubajak (husband-Ed) and the late Peggy Lynn Ross. Proud Grandfather of David Kubajak, Richard Ross, Ryan Ross, Randy Ross, Jared Ross; and proud Great Grandfather of Balou Ross, Bodie Ross, Flint Ross, Jalynn Ross, Jacob Kubajak, and Nicholas Kubajak.
Visitation will be held at Park Ridge Presbyterian Church (1300 W. Crescent, Park Ridge, IL) on June 8th from 12-2pm. A service will follow in the church at 2pm along with a luncheon at 3pm.
A short service along with an Honor Guard ceremony will be held on Tuesday June 9th at 10:30am at Chapel Hill Gardens West (17 W. 201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace, IL)
