Richard J. Simon Sr., 67, peacefully passed early from this life at his Merrionette Park home surrounded by his loving children, Cathy (John) Traynor, Rich (Dawn) and Steve, on Friday, June 27th. He is survived by his dear mother, Alice (the late Fred) Irland; brother Bill (Donna), sisters Joan Rogers, Nancy (Jim) Cousineau, and Leslie (the late Larry) Mikoles; five grandchildren that brought him great joy, Kait (Ryan) and Tess Traynor, and Jake, Ben and Alex Simon; godchildren Mark (Missy) Drolen and Heidi (Mike) Hardek, nieces and nephews Joey and Jim Rogers, Jennifer (Marty) Slevin, Ryan (Allison) Drolen, Vicki (Luke) Malloy, Meghan (Brian Breen) Drolen, Chris Mikoles and Damien Rogers; and many cousins. Predeceased by his father Bill “Cuzy” Simon. A life-long south side Chicagoan, he was a butcher by trade since his teens at Beverly Foods and then as the proprietor of Dick Simon’s Meat Market in Alsip prior to a twenty year career with the Secretary of State where he retired in May of this year. Dick’s life passions were fishing, sports and most importantly his many lifelong friendships, especially those with his “Bunk” Tom, Ed, Bob, Joe, Phil, Moe, Mac, Mike, Ozzie, Daecy, Round and Johnny. He’s now gone fishin’ on his beloved eternal backwaters of the UP with dearly missed friends who were taken before him, Jerry, Albert, Jack, Art and Unkie. We all love you forever Dickie Boy! A memorial in celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 18 at 1pm at Blake- Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn.
