Owen “Bud” McGrath, formerly of Oak Lawn, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in his daughter’s home in Bloomington on April 28, 2010. Bud was born in Chicago on October 27, 1918 to the late James and Sarah nee Muldoon McGrath, who hailed from Ireland. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and valiantly fought in both Germany and France. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, nee Lulinski; brother, James McGrath; sisters Elizabeth McGrath, Sally (George) Calzaretta and Rita (Ed) Walner. Loving father to James McGrath (Cindy Wobschall), Lynette McGrath, Melissa McGrath (Jim Edwards) and Kimberly McGrath. Brother of Mae (Jerry) Doherty, Sue (Dan) Barrett, Margaret McGrath, Rose (Ray) Schultz, and Jack (Arlene) McGrath. Fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bud was an avid gardener and anxiously awaited his first crop of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers every summer, which he lovingly shared with family and friends. In his younger years he enjoyed an occasional good game of golf and up to the end would watch baseball for hours at a stretch (so long as his team was winning). Bud had few rules, but often repeated his favorite: “Write it down, write it down.” He loved to laugh and joke, but never at the expense of another. Bud will forever be remembered for his strength as well as his smile, and will be dearly missed by all of those who were lucky enough to know him. The family extends a special thank you to Cathy for the joy and care that she gave to Bud during his stay in Bloomington. Funeral will be Tuesday 8:45 a.m. from Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn to St. Gerald Church, Mass 9:30 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visitation Monday 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For info, call 708-636-1193.
