Mom, your birthday is coming soon - I always loved that special October bond we had - that magical Autumn month.  I think of you with every pumpkin I see, every fluttering Autumn leaf, every cozy Autumn rain.  I miss you so much, and hear your voice in my head, giving advice about my crazy wonderful guys and laughing at their antics.  Max always chooses the color red because that was Grandma's favorite.  You are so loved and so missed, Mom.  You are forever in our hearts.

Mom, it has been a little over a year since you have gone. So much has happened in this year that I want to share with you and tell you about . I miss you. I miss my mom. You come to me so often in my thoughts and daily things so I know you are here with us and watching us in your own way. Your 11th grandchild was born last December and she is perfect and healthy. She's a little mischief maker. You would get such a kick out of her antics. She looks a lot like you. Petr says that the most actually, he sees you looking through her eyes. He even calls her Little Linda sometimes. Her eyes are bright blue like yours. You and her have the same middle name. Do you remember me telling you that? I wish you could see her and hold her. I know though that you visit Juniper, Kuba and Ivy while they sleep and give them sweet kisses. We miss you but we know that you are peaceful . When we see a little white butterfly, we always know that it's you coming to say hello. You were an amazing strong woman and I am greatful to have had a mom like you to show me what strength and love is. Love and miss you forever.

There is a very special bond  between sisters. I knew it was special yet  never fully  understood the depth of that bond until it was broken. Lin, I miss you more and more as each day passes. I think of the strength and courage you showed when you were widowed at an early age, the determination you showed as a single parent raising five young children, pursuing a career to care for them financially, and the joy and excitement as each one of your children  became independent and followed their dreams. You were passionate about so many things and you loved deeply. When cancer interrupted your life, you fought back with a vengeance. You fought so hard  and for so long. You wanted to be here for as long as you could for your children and your grandchildren. But now it is your time to rest. The fight is over. We will see you again soon. Our hearts are broken but we are grateful for the time we have had with you. I love you Lin and will never stop missing you.

It was no coincidence that before I heard the funeral gospel, I wrote in my journal, Jesus said, "In my Father's house there are many dwelling places" - yes, Linda, you are there, and yes, Berner family et al, I believe we do get our bodies back on the Last Day, so then we will give each other hugs once again! May Jesus' Peace which is beyond all human understanding fill you with His Love , especially now!  Love, Joe Kotula

I practiced saying goodbye to you so many times in the past ten years, thinking that if I just got the words right in my head, it would be easier when the time came, but the hardest thing I have ever done was to actually say goodbye to you in Colorado and walk out of that hospital, back to Chicago.  I hope you understand that I was not leaving you in my heart but just following your teachings about the importance of being there for your family.  In Chicago, I watched Liam get ready for his first day of 8th grade, Zachary nervously start his new school, Queen of Martyrs, your grade school, and Anna start Kindergarten. (She thinks it is too easy by the way!)The entire time I was torn in half, wanting to be in two parts of the country at one time.  Please know that I love you with all of my heart and I will think of you everyday as I continue to honor your memory and the value of family.  I love you.  Julie

To Linda's Family,

I first came to Community High School District 218 in 1998 when I became the Assistant Superintendent.  Linda was my Administrative Assistant and she was a person who made me feel welcome to the district, welcome to the job, and welcome as a friend.  I will always remember her loyalty and her friendliness as well as her sense of humor.  I will always treasure the time we spent as a team and her service to the staff and students of HIgh School District 218.  We shared a love for books and movies, and we spent many lunch periods talking about both of these.  Please accept my sincerest sympathy for your loss.  May you always hold the good memories of Linda in your heart.

Linda was my administrative assistant when I came to Community High School District 218 as the assistant superintendent in July 2012. She was extremely helpful and supportive for the years we worked together, and I'm most grateful for her hard work and dedication to the students of District 218. I would not have been able to do my job without her expertise and friendship.

I want to express my deepest sympathy to Linda's family and hope that their fond memories of her will sustain them during this sad time.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.  Linda was a wonderful person and I enjoyed working with her for many years. She will always be with you.

Pat - You were a loving son to your mother for a long time.  She and your extended family are grateful for the many years your efforts added to her life. God bless you!

Mom, you were the wind behind our sails and our guiding light for so many years. I hope you can now rest knowing that you did your job well.  Our lives and those of your grandchildren, family and friends will be a bit darker and sadder now that you are gone.  May you shine brightly among the stars as we will continue to be inspired through you and by you. We will miss you, love you, honor you and remember you forever! Your loving son.

How I miss the weeks we spent going through the stuff I found at my Dad's and reliving the past. I don't know how you made it through these past ten years but I am happy you can finally rest.  I have always said that there was something very special about you Linda.  Maybe now you will know why I felt that way. You are with your mom and dad now feeling so much comfort in their arms. The thought makes me smile and I can let you go.
