Geraldine “Gerri” M. Sherwin passed away at her home in Oak Lawn, Illinois on Friday, August 4th, 2023; she was 84. Daughter of Frank Ketter and Anne Shimkus, she grew up in the Marquette Park neighborhood of Chicago, there she attended Maria High School, night school at Northwestern University, and eventually met her husband of 55 years, Andrew Sherwin, at neighborhood social dances.
Gerri loved nature, raised several Shetland Sheepdogs, vacationed across the United States with her family, played her baby grand piano, and enjoyed a great variety of music and TV shows – even becoming an avid fan of Korean dramas and K-Pop in the last decade of her life.
She was preceded in her death by her husband, Andrew and is mourned by her sons, Vince of Warrenville, Illinois, Greg (Emily) of Lisbon, Portugal and Jeff (Tina) of Martinez, California and grandsons, Steve and Fabian. With a determined spirit and sense of humor, she passed away peacefully on her own terms after a full and happy life. The family would like to thank her caretakers, Stephanie and Shandrea, who helped her during her final weeks in hospice.
