Edward Burns, age 99, of Hometown, Illinois passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021. Edward was born July 10, 1922 to Michael and Honora Burns in Chicago, IL. Loving husband of 44 years to the late Virginia Burns (nee Neese); Beloved father to Edward Jr. (Theresa), Michael (Adrienne), Thomas (Jeanne), Patricia (Mark), the late Timothy (Susan) and Christopher (Julie). Cherished Grandfather of 13, and Great-grandfather of 12; Preceded in death by his siblings Thomas Burns, Sister Mary Brigetta, Ann (Jack) McAllister, Lenore (William) Savage, Catherine (Raymond) Kokoska and Sister Patricia.
Edward was a WWII Veteran who won 3 Purple Heart Medals of Honor, and 2 Bronze Stars. After he returned home from the front lines of the Philippines arena during WWII he worked at Brinks Security for 35 years. Not yet content with retirement, he went to work until he was 86 years young.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday September 1, 2021 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Blake- Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place on Thursday September 2, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 10134 S. Longwood Dr. Chicago, IL. Interment to immediately follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery 1400 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, IL
In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Edward's name to the Servants of Mary a foundation that was dear to him. Servants of Mary 7400 Military Avenue, Omaha NE 68134
