Dorothy C. Farrar (nee Krueger) age 94, of Orland Park, Illinois passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023 surrounded by many loved ones at her home. Born January 21, 1929 in Chicago to Henry and Hulda, she grew up in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood. Dorothy was the last surviving child having been preceded in death by 8 siblings.
In 1946 she married the love of her life, Charles F. Farrar and they were together until his passing in 1976. She was blessed with 7 children, 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Dorothy was very proud of her 7 “Redheads” and enormous family. Family was her first concern always.
Having lost her dear husband Charlie at a young age, Dorothy still managed to maintain a home, raising her four girls still living at home- the youngest being only 9 years old- all while working her full time job at Matchless Metals. She took pride in manufacturing polishing buffs and running long lines of commercial sewing machines all at once. Besides the challenge of being a single working mom she still maintained her passion for enjoying life.
Through her church she met Harold Classen and they formed a special loving bond for 15 years. Through that time Harold became part of her family and was a wonderful father figure to her youngest girls. Harold passed in 1992, and Dorothy's main focus after that was enjoying time spent with family.
Dorothy's favorite times were multiple vacations including Florida (Disney World was her favorite place in the world!) Las Vegas, Arizona, California, Mexico, Georgia, New Mexico and many more!! She loved taking girls trips with her daughters and granddaughters! She always said “If you’re going somewhere I’ll go with!!” Her other joys came from playing bingo where she made many cherished friends. She loved to go gambling whether it was Las Vegas or the local boats or a kitchen table game of poker. In her later years she became an excellent “Five Crowns” card game player--- playing every single day with family at home. Dorothy even won her last game she played just 3 days prior to her passing. She loved to watch her Western TV shows and Cowboy movies as well as a few game shows she watched daily while sitting in her recliner. She loved to share her snacks with her beloved grandpup Lilly who was always nearby. The last few months as it was harder for her to get around, she was very blessed with the ultimate loving care, companionship and friendship from Nancy Earnest (Drish) who became her main 24/7 caregiver.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children Charles (Judith), James (Eleanor), Charlene (John) Alletto, Marlene (Rick) Libs, Doreene (Felix) Derenzo – Berrios, Kathleen (James) Vicci and Kristine (David) Drish and her grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Andy, Robert, Victor, Eric, Philip, David, Kimberly, Nicholas, Jennifer, Carrie, Emily, Benjamin, Timothy, Jasmine, Nikko, Crystal, Lauren, Heather and Samantha. She was honored to have 40 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Besides her 8 siblings she married into a family inheriting 8 additional brothers and sisters. She was an Aunt, Great Aunt, and Great Great Aunt to so many. She was cherished and loved by every one, a beautiful soul.
Dorothy’s family and love of life was her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
