As a child Margaret loved going with her family to their cottage on Lake Orion. It was there that she met her future husband, George DeBerger. They married in 1943 and lived in Michigan, Wisconsin, California and Florida. Margaret worked as a secretary for the director of Orchards, a residential home for boys in Michigan, and for the first frozen orange juice company in Florida.
After George died in 1985, she moved to Coupeville and became very active in the community. She loved exercising with the ladies at the Methodist Church and hiking with the Wednesday hiking group. Margaret had wonderful adventures traveling with the Whidbey Vagabonds. She was secretary for the Whidbey General Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She loved to sew, travel and read.
Margaret loved spending time with her family and watching her grandson, Evan, grow up.
The last week of her life, Margaret said, “I am 92 and I can still walk!” and she was singing along with Julie Andrews as she watched “The Sound of Music.” She passed away peacefully on May 5th, 2012. Margaret is survived by her children, Susan DeBerger of Michigan, Margie Parker and her husband Gary of Coupeville, and grandson Evan Parker and his wife Laura of Shoreline, Washington.
In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel. A private family gathering and internment will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Whidbey General Hospital Auxiliary Fund, 101 North Main St. Coupeville, Wash. 98239
