Roberta was born in Portland, Oregon to Winifred Barrett and Robert Clement. She graduated from Modesto High School in 1944 and attended Modesto Junior College.
In 1947, Roberta moved to Juneau, Alaska where she met her husband Robert Keller. Roberta and Bob made long lasting memories there and were married in 1948. Eventually, they moved to Novato, California in 1955, settling into their new home on Cambridge Street, where they lived for 43 years and raised three children, Michael, Christine and Kevin.
Roberta began her career at Crocker Bank where she held the position of New Accounts Officer. There were only 2 banks in Novato at that time, so her claim to fame was that she knew half the residents of the small town. This is actually quite likely since there was no such thing as a quick trip to the grocery store with Roberta. Whenever she was in town, she would often run into a number of the many friends she amassed over years. A consummate socialite and completely devoted to her faith, Roberta was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America Chapter 1707 and just celebrated her 65th year as a member.
Golf was one of her passions. She was an original member of the Indian Valley Golf Club and won several Business Women’s tournaments there. Later, she became a regular at Foxtail Golf Course in Rohnert Park.
She was initially a parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church until the opening of St Anthony of Padua in 1968 where her and Robert were founding members. In 1975, Roberta became the Faith Formation Secretary for St. Anthony’s, and worked there for 26 years.
After the passing of her husband Robert in 1998, Roberta married Donald Horgan, also of Novato, in 2001. Don and Roberta had an amazing life together, sharing a love of travel, golfing and gardening for 8 wonderful years until Donald’s passing in 2009.
All who knew Roberta were touched by her bright smile, quick wit and kind spirit. We are all, heartbroken of course, but we take comfort in knowing she is happily reunited with Bob, Don and the tremendous collection of great friends she accumulated over the years. She is survived by her loving children, Michael Keller, Christine Billingslea and Kevin Keller (Marnie) and her three grandchildren Jessica Keller-Poole, Patrick and Kaitlyn Billingslea. A funeral mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date based on COVID-19 limitations.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roberta’s memory to Hospice By the Bay, 17 E Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Larkspur CA 94939 or to St Anthony of Padua Church, Novato.
