Betty Steppler

Betty was born March 26, 1933 in Minnesota to late parents Herman and Ida Bauer. Betty grew up in Minnesota before moving to San Rafeal in 1953 with her first husband. In 1960 the family moved to Novato, CA where she raised her three children and resided until her passing.

During the time of raising her family, Betty worked for a Stationary Store as a bookkeeper and also for Longs Drugstore in Novato. Aside from her family, Betty's true passion in life was made up of art, music and animals. She enjoyed playing the organ and the piano. She also loved caring for and spending time with all her pets over the years that included parrots, cockatiels, lovebirds, and a chinchilla. She baked and decorated beautiful wedding cakes for many years without charge for her services and only receiving reimbursement for the ingredients to bake and decorate the cake. Throughout the years Betty always had many needlecraft projects: crocheting, knitting, embroidery, or tatting that she enjoyed working on, each one completed to perfection.

Betty was also a flying enthusiast, training at Gnoss Field in Novato for her private pilot’s license. She became a licensed pilot in 1976 after passing all required tests the first time out. One of her favorite flying adventures included taking her family to the Nut Tree airport in Vacaville, CA where they would go to have lunch together before flying back home.

In 1979 Betty remarried to John H. Steppler. During their time together they enjoyed traveling to see family in Alaska, spending time at their lake home in Clear Lake as well as traveling to Arizona to watching spring training for the upcoming baseball season.

Betty is preceded in death by her late husband John H. Steppler, her brother Frank Bauer and her sister LaVone Tufford.

Betty is survived by her three children Patricia, Michael, and Stephanie, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She is greatly missed.

Services will be held at Keaton’s Redwood Chapel of Marin in Novato on Tuesday, December 8th at 10:30 A.M.
