Betty Barnes (née Evans), 84, of Parkville, MD, died peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family members, on May 8, 2024, from complications of colon cancer. Betty was born on July 14, 1939, in Tipton, IN. The second of four siblings, Betty was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. After staying at home to raise her three sons, she built a professional career in elder care and nursing home administration, based on prior work as a volunteer at a local nursing home. Her professional and personal life was driven by her caring and compassionate nature. After retiring early, she moved to Punta Gorda, FL, to oversee the construction of her dream home there. She enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and Europe with her husband of 66 years, Mike, and with her beloved younger sister, Linda. In her later years, she was a devout Baltimore Orioles fan, and an avid knitter and crocheter of baby clothes.
Betty is survived by, and will be dearly missed by her husband Mike, of Parkville, MD, her son Greg and his wife, Star of Clear Lake, IA, her son Chris and his wife Sharon, of Annapolis, MD, and her son Tim and his wife Karen, of Lexington, KY, as well as her sister, Linda Evans and her partner Sandy MacGowan of New York, NY, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 10:00 am in the chapel at the Oak Crest Senior Living community in Parkville, MD. Relatives and friends are invited to gather from 9:15 AM - 10:00 AM in the Garden Room (across the hall from the Chapel).
