Beloved husband of the late Angela “Ann” (Pennini); devoted father of Barbara Leston and her husband Gerry, Richard Ciaccio, Robert Ciaccio and Kevin Mangrobang, Kathleen Fortin and her husband Michael, Linda Higgins and her husband Michael; loving grandfather of Shawn Leston and his wife Dee, Christopher Leston and his wife Emily, Kerra Leston, Michael Ciaccio, Bryan Murphy, Derek Murphy, Daniel Murphy and his wife Leanne; proud great-grandfather of Sasha, Billy, Sophia and Oliver Leston, and Brayden, Riley and Emma Murphy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Michael, Josephine and Frank Ciaccio, and Lucy LaBella.
Raised in the North End of Boston, he was one of five children of the late Leonardo and Accursia Ciaccio. He received a BA of Business Administration from Boston University and later completed Northeastern University School of Business courses. Jim served in the United States Army Air Corps 56th Troop Carrier Squadron during World War II, for which he organized many reunions.
During his career, Jim worked in accounting for various companies including IBM and General Foods. He then worked as a civilian employee for several United States military branches including the Coast Guard, Army and Navy, where he retired as a Financial Systems Analyst. After retirement, he worked part time for the Norwood Senior Center for 20 years. Jim was a longtime usher at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish.
A Mass will be held Saturday, June 29, 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Norwood. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, June 28, from 4-8 PM at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, Norwood.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the Arc of South Norfolk, 789 Clapboardtree Street, Westwood, MA 02090, to benefit the program that supports Jim’s granddaughter Kerra.
