May Louise (Rogers) Caprarella longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday August 18, 2024, she was 94.
Born in Franklin NH, May was the daughter of the late Louise (Loverin) and Harry W. Rogers.
Growing up in New Hampshire, alongside the glorious mountains and lakes, May was an avid skier and swimmer. She enjoyed endless hours of swimming, always staying close to the perimeter of Lake Winnisquam, her favorite spot.
May was a fine water skier as well as an enthusiastic rower in her youth. She found peace and beauty in natural surroundings and truly lived and loved the outdoor life!
May moved to Boston in her early years and attended, New England School of Art and Design, where she met her husband, Edward. Her first job, soon after college, was designing window displays for some of Boston’s famous department stores, such as Jordan Marsh.
In the post WWII era, May & Edward moved to Norwood where they raised their three children. May was a traditional home maker, always busy sewing clothes for her children, cooking and working in her yard. Volunteerism was important to her. She strongly believed that being idle, meant becoming complacent.
That, she was not!
May was active in the Prescott School PTA, Norwood Mother’s Club, and Norwood Camp Fire Girls. She loved her parish of St. Timothy’s and the wonderful friendships she formed there.
If there was ever a woman who cooked more breads and cookies for the neighbors, it was May! Bay Colony Paper was May’s place of employment for many years. It was there that she learned about, “computer function and early technology,” even before they were commonplace in homes! May retired from Bay Colony at 65 and certainly moved forward to enjoy her retirement.
She was a dedicated member of The Norwood Evening Garden Club, hosting tours of her beautiful yard, planting traffic islands throughout the town with other members and helping to maintain the garden plots of the local library.
May and Ed loved traveling to Hawaii in their later years and spending time in New Hampshire, at Ed junior’s home. May had a wonderful sense of humor, finding laughter in the mundane details of life.
She enjoyed painting watercolors throughout her life. Her husband Ed, would get a kick out of critiquing her work, which always caused a round of laughter. Her home, and those of her children, are filled with her artistic creations. When she wasn’t painting, cooking, gardening or volunteering, May would collect scrap pieces of wool, hand dye them and “hook,” the narrow strips onto burlap to produce beautiful and unique rugs that only an artist could create.
Above all, she was an ever dedicated and loving wife to her husband and family. “Nini,” as she was called, was fortunate to know and love her four great children before she passed! May Louise will be missed immensely by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Elle, Theo, Jett & Amelia. For May Louise, it was a full, rich life, well spent.
May was the beloved wife of the late Edward P. Caprarella, and the devoted mother of Deborah Marie Kouri and her husband George of Plymouth and Naples FLA, Gail L. Caprarella of Norwood and Edward P. Caprarella, Jr. and his fiancee Charlene Beaton of Melvin Village, NH. She was the sister of the late Harry W. Rogers, Jr., the cherished grandmother of Stephen Kouri and his wife Laura, and Kara and her husband John Edward Welch, III, and the proud great-grandmother of Eleanor and Theodore Kouri, and John Edward III and Amelia M. Welch.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Timothy’s Church, 650 Nichols Street, NORWOOD on Wednesday August 28 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. Visiting Hours are omitted.
