Gregory William Gillis

Gregory William Gillis of Norwood, MA passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on May 14th surrounded by his loved ones. Gregory was raised in Walpole, MA graduating from Walpole High School in 1960. He was a telephone repair technician working for Verizon for many years before his retirement. Gregory was a proud member of IBEW Local 222 as well as a member of the Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horse Thieves. He loved woodworking, bicycling, outdoor activities and especially loved going to his children’s, and later, grandchildren’s sporting events. He was very family oriented and passionate about helping his friends and family in any way that he could.

Gregory was a devoted husband for 57 years to his wife, Joanne (Gearty) Gillis. Loving father of Gregory Gillis Jr and his wife, Nancy of Norwood, Matthew Gillis and his wife, Kathy of Norwood, Heather Porreca and her husband, Eddie of Attleboro, Amanda Durand and her husband, Doug of Canton, and the late Andrew Gillis and his wife, Karen of Norwood. Cherished grandfather of 14 grandchildren: Rebecca Gillis, Gregory Gillis III, Hannah Gillis, Katherine Gillis, Lauren Gillis, Grace Gillis, Shannon Gillis, Owen Gillis, Hadley Porreca, Eddie Porreca, Maggie Porreca, Carolyn Durand, Nolan Durand and Gavin Durand. He was the brother of Judy Hartmann and her husband Ed of Walpole and Libby Gately of Brewster. He was the son of the late Everett and Shirley Gillis and brother to the late Michael Gillis and Paul Gillis.

A visitation will be held at Gillooly Funeral Home on May 18, 2021 at 9 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Church at 11 am with interment at Highland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Greg's memory can be made to Old Colony Hospice , 321 Manley St, West Bridgewater or to the MS Society , Greater New England Chapter, 101A 1st Ave, Waltham MA.

Gregory will be dearly missed by all.
