Francis X. McCarthy

Francis X. McCarthy passed away peacefully on Monday November 11, 2024 after an extended illness.

Born and lived all his life in Norwood, he was the son of the late Roland and Josephine (Pusateri) McCarthy. Francis was a 1956 graduate of Norwood High School. "Franny" was known for his speed and tenacity as an athlete, and enjoyed sharing his experiences playing sports, especially football, baseball, and track while a student at NHS. His proudest moment was scoring the winning touchdown at the 1955 Norwood VS. Dedham Thanksgiving Day game. Francis was a mail carrier for 35 years in Norwood and was well known by many.

Francis was the beloved husband of Corinne (McIntosh) McCarthy of Norwood, and the devoted father of Mark McCarthy of Marshfield, Lisa and her husband Brian Dubey of Dudley, Erin and her husband Timothy Mallette of Wrentham, and Kate McCarthy of Mansfield. He was the brother of Billy, Jerome, Dennis, and Jimmy McCarthy and the late Theresa McCarthy. Francis' biggest joy was sharing his life with his five grandchildren, Brock, Bronson, and Brigham Dubey, and Jack and Mya MacIver. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Services from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Saturday November 16, at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 547 Washington Street, Norwood at 10 AM. Visiting Hours in the Funeral Home on Friday November 15, from 4-7 PM. Interment Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
