Edwin Andrew Page, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old.
Born May 1, 1936 to Charles and Marjorie Page in Mission Hill, Roxbury. He and his parents, sisters and brother later lived in North Quincy, MA. He was a proud graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1953. He served in the United States Naval Reserves as a submariner, 1953-1961, receiving Honorable Discharge. He was a certified journeyman electrician in his local IBEW union. He attended Fitchburg State University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Arts Education in 1961. He earned a Masters degree from Wayne State University in 1969. Edwin met his loving wife, Ann, when they were both students at Fitchburg State University. They married in 1961 and moved to Norwood where they raised 4 beautiful children.
He was an accomplished soccer player during his college career. His 1961 soccer team was inducted into the Fitchburg State University Hall of Fame in 2014. During his teaching career at Walpole High School, he coached wrestling and soccer. Later in his career, he enjoyed being in the broadcast booth as “Biff Page” calling both men’s and women’s basketball games. He earned a “golden microphone” in recognition of outstanding service from Walpole Community Television in 1996. He retired from Walpole High School in 1990 after 30 wonderful years of teaching. He also enjoyed teaching furniture refinishing at adult education evening classes at Westwood High School.
In addition to teaching, Ed fondly enjoyed 18th century re-enactments. He was a member of the 8th Mass, a light bob in the 10th and most recently as the eminent regimental surgeon, Dr. Elijah Skinner. Ed would go on to portray John Quincy Adams for the National Park Service (NPS) as well as driving the NPS trolley in Quincy.
In his retirement, he enjoyed a rich second career as a trolley driver for Beantown Trolley. He loved sharing his knowledge of the colonial history of Boston and surrounding towns to visitors from around the world.
He and his wife, Ann, loved to travel in their retirement. One of his favorite trips was to Ireland to retrace his heritage. He also greatly enjoyed a trip to Normandy Beach where he honored his cousin’s service in World War II.
Finally, he was also a proud member of the pastoral care department of Norwood Hospital. He served his church, St. Catherine of Siena Parish, as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and CCD teacher. His deep faith guided his life.
His proudest accomplishment, though, was his 4 beautiful children and 11 amazing grandchildren. He was a proud supporter of all their endeavors from coaching his son’s Little League teams to being a proud member of the Parents Music Association. He was happiest when listening to their accomplishments and offering his advice.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marjorie Page, his brother, Robert and his wife Mary Page, his sister, Christine McCarron and her husband, Francis. He is survived by his sister, Dr. Susan Trefry and her husband John, his loving and devoted wife, Ann (Clutten); son, Fred and his wife Diane of Bristow, VA; daughter, Jennifer Gallotta and her husband Allen of Sterling, MA; daughter Michele Page Sinotte and her husband Tom Doak of Franklin, MA; and son, Edwin Andrew Jr. and his partner Karen. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Danielle, Michael, Christopher, Paige, Cliff, Faye, Brady, Liam, Kaitlyn, Alexa and Delainey. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Tuesday October 22, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 547 Washington Street, Norwood on Wednesday October 23, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
