QUINLAN, John "Barry" Sr. of Norwood and Walpole, March 26, 2024.
The son of the late John and Ida Quinlan of Boston, and the loving brother of Janice Slade of Norton, Barry was the beloved husband of 68 years of Maureen Quinlan. He is survived by his son Barry of Foxboro, his son Brian and his wife Pamela of Norwood, his daughter Denise and her husband Jack Sullivan of Walpole, his daughter Debra of Sharon and his son Mark and his wife Sheila of North Attleboro. He was the father of Diane Quinlan, late of Wrentham. Barry was the proud grandfather of Jenna, Kellie, Kevin, Justin, Rory, Valerie, Anya and Hunter.
Barry was a 1952 graduate of Boston Latin where he was a member of the 1951 Championship Track Team and was the recipient of the Allan Hiram Whitman Scholarship. He loved running, and in 1953 he ran in the Boston Marathon and finished 26th with a time of 2 hours and 49 minutes. The following month he ran in the Chippewa Marathon in Yonkers, New York and finished 20th. He was also a member of the Boston Athletic Association Running Club.
He served his country from 1953-1955 where he was a Corporal in the Army. While serving, he was a Member of the Fort Carlson Cross Country Team. In 1961 he earned an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. In 1964 he earned a Bachelor of Business Degree from Northeastern University.
Barry worked for The Polaroid Corporation from 1958-1987, where he was a mechanical design engineer. He was very involved in Norwood youth groups where he was Little League Pee Wee President, Babe Ruth League President, Norwood Boosters President and a long- time member of the Parents Music Association. He was a member of the Norwood Knights of Columbus Council 152 and in 1993 he was selected as Norwood’s Man of the Year.
Barry enjoyed his days with his family and recalling stories of all the wonderful times he had, as well as sharing stories of his beloved Boston Braves.
Services from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Tuesday April 2 at 10 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Norwood at 11. Visiting Hours in the Funeral Home on Monday from 4-7 PM. Interment Wrentham Center Cemetery.
