Naomi E. Wright passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024 at the age of 93. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was born in Leonardsville, NY on February 6, 1931. Naomi was the third of 12 children. After high school, she married Richard F. Wright, of Richfield Springs, NY. They were an Air Force family and lived in Amarillo and San Antonio, TX; Charleston, SC; Oahu, HI; and Belleville, IL. After Richard's retirement, the family moved to a 50-acre dairy farm in New Berlin, NY. Naomi's days were very busy with household chores and riding herd over her seven rambunctious children. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, crocheting, knitting, bowling and board games.
After divorcing in 1976, Naomi continued to live in New Berlin until moving to Marlene Meadows apartments in Norwich, NY in November of 2005. She loved living independently, playing bingo with friends and earning the coveted title of "Yahtzee Queen" with a record high score of 714 after many, many "spirited" games with family. Our heartfelt thanks go out to her friends and staff at both Marlene Meadows and Chase Memorial Nursing Home, where Naomi spent her final few months.
Naomi is survived by her children, Richard (Judie) Wright, of Norwich, NY; William (Vicki) Wright, of Frederica, DE; Robert (Joann) Wright, of Algonac, MI; Donald (Teri) Wright of Athens, AL; Sheri (Steve) Christian, of North Norwich, NY; and Thomas Lauri) Wright, of Smyrna, NY; her brother, Gary Ray of West Edmeston, NY and her sister, Linda Brownell, of Richfield Springs, NY. Her life was also blessed by the love of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Naomi was predeceased by her beautiful daughter, Debi Bolek, of Stockton, MS.
A funeral service will take place at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 23, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich with her son, Richard Wright officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00pm until the time of service. A gathering for friends and family will be held afterward. Details will be announced at the service.
