Kenneth F Rooney

Kenneth F. Rooney, 66, of Norwich, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 in Cooperstown with his loving family by his side. Ken was born in Suffern, NY on January 7, 1957 to the late Francis and Evelyn (Carpentier) Rooney. Ken graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1975. He spent most of his career working for the Town of Clarkstown Highway Department as a parts manager. Ken was also an active volunteer firefighter for over 20 years with Hillcrest Monsey and South Spring Valley Fire Departments in Rockland County, NJ. Ken was also known as an avid classic car enthusiast and he enjoyed working on them with his sons. He was a quick witted jokester who never let the hard times in life diminish his cheerful spirit.

In 1991, Ken married his wife and best friend, Dara (Schult) Rooney. He became a devoted father to her two children, Neil (Kari) Darragh, and Margaret (Brett) Darragh-Oles. They went on to having two more sons, Kevin Rooney, and Brian (Miranda) Rooney. Ken was very devoted to his family including his grandchildren, Peyton Christian, Connor Darragh, K.C (Kenneth) Darragh, Caysen Oles, Kaylee Darragh-Oles, Kendrick Darragh-Oles, and Lance Rooney. In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kellie-Marie; and his sister, Kathleen.

Kens family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses at Chenango Dialysis in Norwich as well as the staff at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Calling hours for Ken will take place at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich on Friday, June 23, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Norwich.
