Graduating from Oneonta High School in 1963, he pursued his love of music as a guitar player with several local bands. Among them, The Vandels and Kindred Spirit.
He had a natural talent for creating innovative businesses. Doug’s Subs was the first sub shop (1970) in Norwich and was still popular when it was sold 25 years later. His love of music and the enjoyment he found in people having a good time led to starting Hot Wax DJ Service. For over 40 years he provided music for weddings, school dances and parties. The most fun were the Friday night dances at the YMCA. They left wonderful memories for a generation. Norwich Video was also ahead of its’ time. His creativity expanded into new avenues, personalizing couples’ memories on their special day.
He married Kathleen Adams on December 19, 1965. They had a wonderful marriage of 57 years.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Norwich, his children, Chad (Tracy) Darrah, Dothan, AL; Karin (Matt) Meyer, Eagleville, PA; Seth Darrah, Norwich, NY, Stacy Darrah, Philadelphia, PA. Also surviving are grandsons Trevor and Blake Darrah, Jarod and Caleb Meyer, granddaughter Megan (A.J.) Saraceno, great granddaughter Eleanor Saraceno and his brother Larry (D.J.) Hubler.
