Diana Zukauskas Gibson 101 of Norwich NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2020. Diana was born on December 24, 1918 in Waterbury CT. She is of Lithuanian decent and the daughter of Joseph and Helen Bendoritis Zukauskas. Her father Joseph was an immigrant from Lithuania and had come to Ellis Island in 1914. Diana had one sibling, her older brother Joseph Zukauskas, Jr.
During Diana's childhood her parents owned several meat markets, and at the age of four she and her family moved from Waterbury, CT to Detroit, MI; at age eight to Riverside IL, and at age 13 they moved to their dairy farm in McDonough, NY. There Diana attended both McDonough and Oxford Central Schools. She was known for her athleticism and used to walk or ski eight miles a day to and from school. In high school, she was a star on the girl's basketball team. Diana was known for her artistic talent through her drawing and acrylic painting. In her senior year of high school, she was chosen to draw the illustrations for her class yearbook. Several years later as an adult, she was honored by displaying her paintings in the lobby of the NBT Bank.
After high school, Diana went to work at the Veterans Home in Oxford
and the Unemployment Office in Norwich. In 1941, she married her husband George E. Lindridge, and they made their home on Rexford Street in Norwich. They enjoyed their home and grew large vegetable and flower gardens. Together they raised three children, George Jr., Robert and Debra.
In 1958, after the children were in school, Diana reentered the workforce and worked at WT Grants and the Evening Sun. She later went to work at Chenango CoOperative Insurance Company as a Policy Writer. Diana was loved by her coworkers for her gentle and kind nature. She retired from the company in 1985. In retirement, Diana enjoyed entertaining, traveling, gardening, playing golf, bowling, card club, and travel club to name a few.
After the passing of husband George in 1969, Diana married John Weininger and later Roger Wales. In 2003, after Roger’s passing, she married husband Harry Gibson. She and Harry lived on County Rd 32 in Norwich. Together they enjoyed their home, family and traveling. It was Harry that encouraged Diana to continue with her passion for painting.
As of April 24, 2017, Diana made her new home at the Chenango Valley Home. She met new friends; enjoyed her surroundings and the friendly staff; raved about the excellent dining, and enjoyed the many wonderful social activities. She looked forward to this new chapter of her life.
Diana was predeceased by her husband George E Lindridge Sr. , husband Harry Gibson, parents Joseph and Helen (Bendoraitis) Zukauskas, brother Joseph Zukauskas and his wife Lois (Wackford)Zukauskas, Uncle Vit Bendoraitis and son George E. Lindridge, Jr.
Diana is survived by son, Robert D. Lindridge and his wife Sharon of Binghamton NY; daughter Debra L. Post and husband John of Norwich, and daughter-in-law Linda Munro of Norwich.
She is also survived by several Grandchildren/Great Grandchildren: Stephen(Shannon) Lindridge of Newark Valley, NY and their children Isaac and Oren; Scott(Tina) Lindridge of Preston, NY and their children Megan, Josh, and Isaiah; Todd (Jennifer) Lindridge of Binghamton NY and their children Phoebe and Collin; (Tim) Brooke Weidow of Montrose PA and their children Madeline and Emma; Christopher Post and his girlfriend Cheyenne Hite of Norwich; Jeffrey Post and his fiancée Melissa Grant of Norwich and son Trevor; and Craig (Sierra) Post of Norwich and their son Jack.
Services for Diana will be held Monday, October 5, 2020 from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Calling hours commence at 11:00am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm. A private family burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, in Norwich.
