I knew Cathy through the Genomics Education Partnership meetings.  She clearly loved science, teaching, and research.  I will miss her enthusiasm.

I met Cathy at the fly meetings and we collaborated off and on over the last 20+ years.  She was a terrific colleague.  I truly admired her work with undergraduate students.  She always inspired them to their very best performance.  I will miss her.

  I am so sorry to hear of your mother's sudden passing.  I met her through the genomic education partnership and worked on a committee with her.  She was indeed intelligent, vibrant and keenly interested in life.  She will be missed in our group and by me.

Chris, I met your mother when Laura was coaching Matthew's U6 soccer team.  I had met your father years earlier during your games.  Meeting your mom, I was impressed by her calm grace. "of course - she would have to have nerves of steel and great patience to raise such a wonderful family."  The world is a sadder place.  The Hurley family will grieve for your loss.

Cathy, I met you when I was 6 years old. That was 46 years ago. We moved in to the house across the street from yours. We instantly became best friends forever. Yes, you are my bff. My dear, sweet friend. Today I am flooded with wonderful, fond memories of us playing together every day after school, and on weekends. Playing kick-ball in front of your house. Hopscotch in front of mine. Climbing the huge tree in your front yard. Eating the plums off your plum tree in your backyard when we got hungry - after all - who had time to stop to eat! Swinging on the clothesline poles in my backyard. Chasing the "Ice Cream Truck" on those hot summer afternoons, then sitting on the curb to eat the popcicles before they melted and ran down our hands. Walking to the swimming pool at the high school to go swimming in the summer. Building tumbleweed forts in the big field across Monte Vista - before they built the medical center there. Piling in to that huge "International Station Wagon Truck" and going to church with you and your family every Sunday... followed by a trip to "Andy's Market" where we would have to decide on which candy to spend the 10 cents on that your Daddy would give each of us. Girl Scouts. At the age of 12 my heart was broken when your family moved "you" so far away from "me". Yet you some how managed to figure out how we could stay in touch, and remain friends, in a day when there was no internet or cell phone. And we have, for 46 years. You were in my wedding. I was in yours. So many many loving and wonderful memories. Hard to believe that the little girl, you, my best friend, whom I found so often laying on her bed, thumb in her mouth, face buried in a Nancy Drew Mystery novel, would turn in to such an astonishing woman, touching the lives of thousands, blessing so many with your knowledge, friendship, generosity and most importantly, love, is now gone.

You came to Colorado a few years ago - and it was like nothing had ever changed. We got together and giggled and played, giggled and played, giggled and played. Just like we did when we were little kids. Now especially, I am so thankful for that time we had together. And of course, you left, but not before you taught me another thing. How to make fleece blankets! And I have spread that love... by making nearly everyone in my family a fleece blanket - thanks to you!

Today my heart again is broken, and incredibly heavy as I have just learned of your passing. I am so saddened and shocked. The tears wont stop rolling down my cheeks. My throat is so tight...

Cathy, I will miss you, and the unbelievably positive outlook you had on everything and everyone. I, as many, have been blessed with knowing you. So proud to call such an incredible woman, my friend. I will miss your teasing too (you know what I mean). I love you Cathy. And I pray God gives your children, family and friends the strength they need to get through this tragedy.

I know God has embraced you with his loving arms, as he greeted you in Heaven. And I can see both your Mom and Dad embracing you as well, with so much love and pride. They are so proud of you and all that you have accomplished. We all are. Please give them my love, as well.

Thank you Cathy. For being such a warm, caring, compassionate and loving friend. I will never EVER forget you. I love you my friend. And I will miss you deeply. I already do. Rest in peace.
