NORTHPORT | Susie Rushing Lary, age 84, of Northport, died February 20, at Hospice of West Alabama. Family and friends will celebrate her life as a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother during services held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 22 at Sunset Funeral Home with Dr. John Nixon officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Susie Rushing was born and raised in Northport, marrying her sweetheart James Lary in 1946 in Columbus, Mississippi. While raising a family, Sue worked in education for many years and retired from the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education in 1992. Her love of gardening, sewing and tending to her grandchildren fulfilled her later life.
She was preceded in death by parents, Hewitt Ashley and Nora V. Rushing; son, Larry Lary and brothers, Bernard, Terrell, Sam and Bill.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, James A. Lary, Sr. of Northport; son, James A. (Butch) Lary, Jr. of Tuscaloosa; daughter, Sabrina Case (Tom) of Northport; sisters, Jeanie Lancaster of Northport and Pat Farley of Tuscaloosa; granddaughter, Margaret Little (Michael) of Falls Church, Virginia; grandsons, Lance Lary of Atlanta, Georgia, Lang Lary of Aliceville and Butch Case (fiancé Brittany Holley) of Huntsville.
Pallbearers will be Butch Case, Tom Case, Ray Glenn, Lang Lary, Michael Little and Byron Sprayberry.
Honorary Pallbearers are Brenda and Savannah LaFoy, Jerry, LuLu, and Joey Pike, Barbara Harman, lnez Rushing, Dr. John Dubay, JoAnn Miller, nurses and staff of Manderson Cancer Center, Dr. Lee Loftin and staff of Tuscaloosa Ears Nose and Throat Dr. Joe Fritz, our Hospice care team: Cassandra, Lisa, Shirley, Amy, Allison, Ron, Verta, Hospice of West Alabama, Liz Dykes, William and Anita Guerard, Steve and Nancy Terry, Mike and Cindy Hannah, Glenn and Marsha Crow, Robert and Sharon Wallace, Gay Colvin, Robin Jones, Karen Terry, Susie Tierce, Charlene McCollum, Annette Cook, Jean lgnatz, Tommy Brown, and Charles Sprayberry Sunday School class of Northport Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Eagles Wings, Hospice of West Alabama, Northport Baptist Church Benevolence or Library fund.
