Tuscaloosa, Dr. Mary Louise Jones Mickler, 88, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at home. Funeral Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Friday, December 20, at 2PM with Dr. Ken Dunivant and Reverend Dan Kilgore officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The burial service will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Dr. Mickler was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Louise Ogletree Jones and father, Leroy King Jones, Jr., her husband, Dr. Jacob Ernest MIckler, and her son, John Darrington Lowrey, sister, Lucy Wynn Jones, and brother, Leroy King Jones III. She is survived by her children, Dr. Gerald B. Lowrey, James B. Lowrey (joyce), Elizabeth A. Warren (Oliver), Anne Christensen (Mark), Susan Teague (Jeff), Greg Mickler (Laura), and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Dr. Mickler was a graduate of Marengo County High School, Judson College, Livingston University (UWA), and the University of Alabama where she earned her Ed. D in 1971. Following her formal education she taught seven years at Livingston University before returning to the University of Alabama in 1978 as Associate Professor of Education. In addition to teaching, she chaired many doctoral dissertation committees and published numerous articles in referred journals. She was promoted to professor in 1988 and retired as Professor Emeritus in 1991. Pallbearers will be Oliver Warren, Greg Mickler, Kenne Walker, Eddie Templeton, Al Fox, and King Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be the longtime caregivers of the Mickler Family. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa.
