Mary John Kuykendall

NORTHPORT – Mary John Kuykendall, age 88, of Northport, Ala., died November 24, 2018, at UAB. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Sunset Funeral Home with Ben Jameson and Max Stripling officiating. Burial will follow in Campground United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Monday, November 26, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Granville Kuykendall; son, Kenny Kuykendall; parents, Victor and Stella Watkins; sisters, Juanita Watkins and Maudeen Brasher; and brother, Seaborn Watkins.

Survivors include her daughter, Nita Kay Weir (David) daughter-in-law, Marcille Kuykendall; sister, Williean Clements; grandchildren, Lory Kuykendall, Brent Kuykendall (Jessica) and Lindsay Rogers (Andrew); and great-grandchildren, Ken Kuykendall, Gracyn Rogers, Anderson Kuykendall and Owen Rogers.

Born in Tuscaloosa County, she was married almost 62 years to the love of her life, Granville Kuykendall. They lived in Tuscaloosa and Northport.

She loved her church Five Points Baptist, gardening and flowers and her family.

Her greatest joy was her three grandchildren and then her four great-grandchildren. We have loved telling people of an 88 year old sliding down a slide with a three year old.

If you knew my mom then you will know how loving and giving she was and will be missed by many.

Pallbearers will be Sidney Clements, Larry Brasher, Jimmy Glover, Leon Brown, Pat Harvey and Josh Sims.

Honorary pallbearers are the doctors and nurses at UAB NICU, Five Points Baptist, neighbors from 41st Street, Danny Long, Eleanor Drive and Lakeview Manor Drive.
