He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Marler Jr. and Nedra Marler, and sister, Carolyn Marler Lee.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brenda Holman Marler, and sister Bonnie Marler Junkin (Gerald).
Jack was born on November 20, 1942, in Coker, AL. He is a 1961 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and served in the US Air Force for nine years. He then graduated from the University of Alabama School of Social Work and was employed by the State of Alabama Department of Human Resources. He retired as director in Marengo County.
Jack was a member of the Rotary Club in Montgomery and Demopolis, where he received the Paul Harris Award for service. He was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church in Montgomery, and First Baptist Church of Demopolis, where he loved singing in the choir, serving as a deacon, and teaching Sunday School for many years.
A Celebration of Life for John will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home, 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, AL 35473. Burial will follow in Big Creek Cemetery in Coker, Alabama.
Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama and the gracious employees of Station 2 at Forest Manor Health and Rehabilitation. Special thanks to Amanda Banks and Brenda Witherspoon for their kindness over these last years.
