Jerry G. Taylor, a resident of Northport, AL, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on November 23, 2023. Funeral Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Brother Jerry Skinner.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Rachel Taylor; his siblings, Elbert Taylor, Milton Taylor, Eloise Gilliland, Beth Gaddy, Jimmy Taylor, Sara Mills, and Donald Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Paul Kicker; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Bonnie Crowell; and daughter, Stacy Crowell; grandchildren, Christopher Kicker, Brandon (Bethany) Kicker, Paige (Jordan) Smith, Megan (Gavin) Weber; great grandchildren, Grace Kicker, Brendon, Ethan, and Rowan Zhou, and Kailan and Jordan Kicker; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Jerry was born on July 22, 1937, in Northport, Alabama. He served in the Army for three years, stationed at Fort Rucker and deployed to Korea. He worked as a master mechanic and foreman at Roland Pugh Construction for many years prior to working for Drummond Coal. After retiring from Drummond Coal, he continued to work for various companies and individuals and worked his own personal business, Carroll’s Creek Auto Repair. He was well respected and trusted by many as their personal mechanic.
Jerry was a former member of Carroll’s Creek Baptist Church and Chapel Hill Baptist Church. He was an active member of Rose Blvd. Baptist Church.
Jerry enjoyed helping family, friends, church members, and his community. He often donated his time and services to those who were less fortunate and enjoyed every minute of it. He loved farming, auto mechanic work, children, and animals.
Jerry leaves behind a host of family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. He was fortunate to have an amazing home-health care from his wife (Jean), Hospice of West Alabama and the private sector. He had and incredibly special relationship with Heather, Jane, Wendy, Kenny, and Tina. A special thanks to all the wonderful people at Hospice of West Alabama for their encouragement, support, and for providing respite care (Latrell, Jill, Denise, Raquel, and others) and to the Carroll’s Creek Volunteer Fire Department for their prompt and caring visits.
Pallbearers are as follows: Randy Crowell, Brandon Kicker, Christopher Kicker, Paul Kicker, Rowdy McBride, Bill Taylor, and Chris Williams.
