Dr. Jacob Ernest Mickler, Jr., Ed.D., 87, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at home. Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa on Friday, December 6 at 11AM with Dr. Ken Dunivant and Reverend Dan Kilgore officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the Parker Fireside Room. A private family burial service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Mickler was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Ernest Mickler, Sr., his mother, Cornelia Inez Mickler, and his sister, Carolyn Murdock. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise MIckler; children, Anne Christensen (Mark), Susan Teague (Jeff), Greg Mickler (Laura), Gerald B. Lowrey, James B. Lowrey (Joyce), Elizabeth A. Warren (Oliver) and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dr. Mickler was a graduate of Florala High School, Howard College (Samford), and the University of Alabama where he earned his Ed. D. in 1963. Following his formal education he taught for one year at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS before returning to the University of Alabama as Director of Testing with additional teaching responsibilities in the College of Education. He advanced to Director of Student Enrollment Services in 1966 before retiring as Vice-President for Planning and Operations in 1991. Dr. Mickler also served for over twenty-five years on the Board of Directors of the American College Testing (ACT) Service. Pallbearers will be Mark Christensen, Chris Roquemore, Oliver Warren, James Lowrey, and Gerald Lowrey. Honorary pallbearers are the longtime care givers of the Mickler family.
