Mack was a long time resident of Northport and leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Mary Jo Green Herndon. His sons, Michael Herndon (Eloise), Wayne Herndon (Jamie), daughters; Rhonda Herndon (Denny Conn), Lynn H. Duncan (Shane), Shelia L. Wilson (Rich); Sons Billy G Sartain (Shelby) and Greg Sartain (Shonna Evans); grandchildren; Neica Asher (Trent), Jason Mullins (Jennifer), Dillon Sartain (Kayla), Heather Vaughn (Dusty), Melissa Burkhart, Deborah A. Burkhart, Josh Dockery, Jake Dockery, Derik Rayner, Ashley Dungan, Taylor Dungan, Jessica Herndon, Andrew Herndon and Olivia Herndon; great grandchildren; Taylor Vaughan, Bayley Vaughan, Aubrey Lawson Sartain, Preston Asher, Parker Asher, Jaxon Mullins, and Jenson Mullins, he also leaves behind; Dawn Herndon, Billy Herndon, Jr., Karen Sartain and Dallas Conaway.
Mr. Herndon is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Susan Herndon; brother and sister in law, Billy and Tennie Herndon and brother Coleman Herndon.
Mack served 3 years on the United States Army National Guard after serving in the United States Navy on the USS Hancock from 1959-1963. Mr. Herndon worked in construction all of his life, he moved around and was fortunate enough to see many beautiful places. He retired from R and D Maintenance. Mack was a loving husband, PawPaw and a friend to many. He loved hunting, fishing and telling many stories.
The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Alabama Hospice Care of Tuscaloosa, Hazelrig Salter Radiation Oncology, Dr. Andrew McDonald Radiation Oncology, radiation team (Chris and RN Marsha), Dr. Arnab Basu oncology nurses and coordinator Tracy. Dr. Jed Ferguson, III, Urology Staff at Hope Lodge (Cancer Centers of America) and the many Social Workers.
Celebration of Life graveside services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park, 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, Al 35473. Rev. John Pritchett will officiate services. Pallbearers are Jason Mullins, Dusty Vaughn, Dillon Sartain, Shane Dungan, Trent Asher and Denny Conn.
