NORTHPORT -- Frances Sims McKenzie, age 77, of Northport, Ala., went home to her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, February 1, 2019. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Silvey officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held Monday, February 4, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robert H. McKenzie, her daughters Elizabeth Renicks (Marshall) of Coaling, Ala., and Cindy Silvey (Danny) of Kingsport, Tenn., and son, Daniel McKenzie (DeAnne) of Johnson City, Tenn; seven grandchildren, Kate Silvey, Nathan Silvey, Clayton McKenzie, Will Renicks, Carter McKenzie, Jackson Renicks, and Davis McKenzie; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Frances McKenzie was born March 16, 1941, in Fayette, Ala. She graduated from Florence State College, where she met her husband Bob, and shortly after her graduation in 1961 began an elementary school teaching career that spanned many decades. She retired from Tuscaloosa Academy after 16 years on the faculty. Locally she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and Grace Church and St. Mark United Methodist Church. She led Bible studies and taught Sunday School for many decades. She was involved in Community Bible Study and many local ministries during her lifetime. She was especially fond of ministry to international students and has friends around the globe who will miss her. Her family was always at the forefront of her mind, and she loved them abundantly.Most of all she was characterized by her deep love of Jesus and expressing His love to everyone she encountered.
Pallbearers will be her six grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Regina Harrell, Dr. Dmitry Zak and staff of the Cancer Care Center of Tuscaloosa, staff and caregivers at DCH Rehabilitation Pavilion and at Forest Manor Rehabilitation Pavilion.
