Don was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Pate; mother, Lucy Nell Pate; brother, Fred Pate; and sister, Julie Moore.
Don left surviving family members: His loving wife of 60 years- Mary Kilgore Pate, his four children Ray Pate, Phil Pate (Shawn), Celita Carmichael, and Rick Pate (Jeannie), Grandchildren Lizzie Pate, DonRay Pate, Olivia Pate, Drew Carmichael, Maison Carmichael, Jeff Carmichael, Christy Stewart and seven great grandchildren.
Don graduated from Evergreen High School in 1958. After high school, Don managed and owned multiple businesses in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. In 1995, Don retired from the corporate world in Birmingham to spend time with his wife and family. Don loved his retired life on the ranch as a cattleman where he spent quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Don’s visitation will be held on November 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, Alabama and a Celebration of Life Service at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 7100 Watermelon Road, Northport, Alabama on November 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
