Claudia Kelley McGee, age 20, of Northport passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018. Miss McGee was preceded in death by her grandmother Colleen Oswalt Boyd. She is survived by her mother Kathy Oswalt McGee and stepdad Kevin Franklin; father Mark McGee (Linda) sister Brandi Dearman; brothers James “Gee” McGee (Heather) and Jon Wesley McGee (Deana); grandparents Buddy and Carolyn McGee; nieces and nephews Emalee, Aiden, Ryder, Estes, and Marek.
Claudia McGee was a bright beautiful young lady who everyone can agree was the best daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, and friend anyone could dream of. Her positive spirit, smile, and laugh was contagious to everyone she met. She knew her purpose in life was to help children, and she fulfilled that in her short time on earth. She volunteered at Children’s Hospital of Alabama in the oncology department and she had worked at numerous schools and preschools as a student teacher. When she wasn’t doing that she was babysitting, nannying, and loving on her nieces and nephews. Claudia had completed half of her higher education degree in early childhood education and child life studies. Aside from children she had an adventurous spirit. She enjoyed traveling, flying, shopping, music, and most recently crossed skydiving off her bucket list. She lived life to the fullest taking advantage of every opportunity that she could. She was bold in her walk with Jesus and had found refuge in her small group at Church of the Highlands. She was one-of-a-kind - unique and special in so many ways. Her loving heart beats on as she was an organ donor and gave life to several others who before this week had little hope because they shared her rare blood type. The memory of her bright face, big smile, and contagious laugh will be a beacon towards heaven as she brought happiness to so many. Her family finds comfort knowing that she’s in her Father’s arms.
Visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2018, at Five Points Baptist Church in Northport from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Miss McGee will lie in state at the church again on Saturday, July 7, 2018, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. The funeral service will follow Saturday July 7, 2018, beginning at 11:00 am at Five Points Baptist Church. Burial will be at Campground Cemetery in Northport following the service. Rev. Tyler Benton will officiate the service.
Pallbearers will be Alex Freeman, Chris McGee, Brett Ember, Drew Estes, Austin Jewell, Russ Barnett, and Brayden Brewer. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her loving friends, small group family and friends at Church of the Highlands, coworkers and children she loved at Children’s of Alabama, babies at First Presbyterian Preschool, and all of the children from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Children’s Hospital of Alabama or Camp Ground Cemetery fund.
