It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carolyn Adams Walker, beloved mother, sister, and friend, who passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18th, 2024, at the age of 69 years in Birmingham, Alabama. Carolyn's vibrant spirit, warm heart, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Carolyn was born on July 25th, 1955, in Junction City, Kansas, to Warren and Mary Adams. Her family moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1971. She attended high school at Tuscaloosa County High, class of 1973. She attended college at Shelton State and met the love of her life there, Jerry.The two were married in 1979 and celebrated 44 years of marriage last year. In that time, they started a family and raised three sons in Northport. Carolyn went on to work in Accounting at the University of Alabama where she had a distinguished career of 30+ years, retiring in 2013. She and Jerry moved from Northport in 2021 to Fairhope to enjoy coastal living and spending time with their grandchildren.
She spent her life surrounded by family and friends, always making those around her feel seen, valued, and loved. Carolyn's warmth was her trademark, and her thoughtfulness knew no bounds. Whether as a devoted mother, a loving sister, or a loyal friend, she gave freely of her time, her talents, and her compassion.
Carolyn’s greatest joy was her family. As a mother, she was the heart and soul of her home, offering guidance, laughter, and unconditional love to her children. Her nurturing spirit and deep love for her children will remain with them always. She was a beloved grandmother, or Gigi, who offered warmth and love along with wisdom and guidance to all her grandchildren. She was also a treasured sister, whose bond with her siblings was unbreakable and filled with memories of shared laughter, support, and love.
Beyond her family, Carolyn was a servant to all. Her compassion extended to everyone she met, she was always quick to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or words of encouragement. She had so many friendships that were deep and lifelong, and her generosity of spirit have left a mark on the hearts of so many.
She is survived by her sons Eddie Walker (Cathrine) and Matt Walker(Elizabeth), stepchildren Lynn Glode (John) and Ken Walker (Mindy), her siblings Don Adams (Debby), Marillyn Hewson (James), Sheila Adams and Anita Morton (Bill), her seven grandchildren and great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years, Jerry Lee Walker, her son Chris Walker, her parents, Warren and Mary Adams, and her brother, Warren Adams.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, with a visitation for friends and family at 1:00pm, and a funeral service at 2:00pm at Sunset Brown Funeral Home, 3802 Watermelon Road Northport, Alabama 35473 where we will gather to share stories, offer support, and honor the legacy of love and joy she leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Children’s Hospital of Alabama in her memory. Carolyn's passing leaves a void that will never be filled, but her love, warmth, and joy will continue to guide and inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
