Lorne died peacefully at the age of 81, on Jan 8th, 2023 surrounded by family at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Dorothy Jane, his daughters Jennifer (Rob) and Anne, and his grandchildren Iris and Henry. Lorne was born to Wilfred and Marjorie Rae in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1941. As a boy, he enjoyed playing hockey, academics and collecting baseball cards. He had many fond memories growing up which included spending time with his father, older brother John, friend Jonesy and dog Paula. He discovered economics at the University of Saskatchewan where he received two degrees, a B.A in History and Economics in 1962 and B.Comm Honors in Economics in 1964. He later completed his Masters of Arts in Economics at the University of Manitoba in 1969. His investment management career spanned over 40 years, starting in Toronto with Shell Canada. He later became the manager of investments with Canadian Premier Life in Winnipeg before moving to BC working for BC Central Credit Union. A highlight was achieving his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1974. Lorne was a highly motivated and respected investment councilor, starting numerous firms in Vancouver until retiring at the age of 65. Lorne was known as a kind, gentle and caring person. He was always there to provide great advice to family and friends when they needed it. Lorne took pride in volunteering for the local RCMP, was President of the Loyal Protestant Association, and member of the district of North Vancouver Parks Board. He had an eclectic range of interests and a relentless mind. In 1996, he competed and placed top 4 in the Golden Division of the Country Line Dancing World Championships in Nashville, TN. He constantly sought out to learn, appreciate and draw the numerous connections that life gave whether it be from sports, history or travel. His love of learning and research was a true passion of his, later accomplishing many published articles over the years. His greatest love was his family. A Celebration of Life will be held privately.
