It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of June Thompson (nee Lauritzen). She was predeceased by her parents Owen and Eunice and survived by her beloved husband Jack and daughters Diane (partner Blair) and Lauri (partner Kohl).
Born and raised in Vancouver, June was begrudgingly sent to spend her senior highschool years at boarding school in England. The silver lining was finding what would become life-long friendships among her fellow students, as well as getting to enjoy spending summers with family in Denmark where her adored father was from.
June was a lover of literature, nature, gardening, photography and travel. Having been an archivist at the North Shore Museum and Archives for 25 years (her "dream job"), meant that family vacations often involved several stops to museums, much to her husband's and childrens' dismay. But her persistence and passion in sharing her love for history and discovering what makes a new and unknown place special, enriched her family's lives. You were right Mom!
Other focuses of June's included womens' rights and reproductive freedom which led her to become involved in the North Shore Women's Centre. Through the Centre, she found kinship and meaningful friendships (hello 'F Group'!).
It is hard to imagine that we will never get to enjoy June's kindness, warmth, good sense, welcome advice and humor again. She will be missed enormously by her beloved family and dear friends. There are no plans for a service at this time. However, if you wish to have a dedicated special time thinking of her, may we suggest walking in nature, sitting in a park listening to the wind rustle the leaves, gazing at a sea/river/lake or viewing artwork depicting the beauty of nature. We can't think of anything that she would like better than to 'Commune with June'.
