Jeanne Carol Harris (née Richard) was born in Kankakee, Illinois on November 11th, 1947. The youngest of six siblings (Don, Norman, George, Patricia, and David preceded her) born to Irene and George Richard. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University. While in university she married Stephen Harris and a son David Harris was born in Kankakee as well. Subsequently the family immigrated to Canada and Beth Harris was born in Richmond, British Columbia.
The family moved to Kelowna in the interior of British Columbia. Kelowna was a new town to explore new interests such as the Okanagan Symphony and sailing. Jeanne was employed as a drug and alcohol counselor at Crossroads Treatment Centre. She transitioned into a new job in Squamish and from there into work with Vancouver Coastal Health with the Dual Diagnosis Program, Wound Care Program and Evergreen Community Health Centre in the addictions field. In addition, she consulted and taught college and university classes. She resided in North Vancouver with her son and daughter exploring new interests in Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and performing arts activities.
After retirement she aimed to travel for enjoyment and visited China and India. She will be remembered fondly as a joyous individual that had a keen skill for listening to people. In her final years she spent time with family and friends and greatly enjoyed seeing her grandson Charles’ boyhood.
She is survived by her sister Patricia, brother David, son David, daughter Beth and grandson Charles.
