Irene Elizabeth Anne Buchanan

Mom (Irene Buchanan) passed away quietly on April 24, 2023, just a few weeks short of her 90th Birthday on May 10th, at the George Derby Centre in Burnaby. Mom took up residency at George Derby in late 2021 and we’d like to thank the staff and care-givers for being Mom’s daily company and tending to her needs.

Tragically Mom had significant mental health struggles throughout her life that became acute during CoVID restrictions. In-spite of Mom’s often testy attitude and demanding expectations throughout the decades her surviving family, Victor (her son), Tracey and Cheryl (her daughters) supported and adapted to her complex needs as thoroughly and supportive as possible. Mom loved children; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, collecting antiques, singing, gardening, costumes, fishing and Dachshunds. Our positive memories of Mom are buoyed by our early lives in Lynn Valley and first years on the Alouette River in Maple Ridge where Mom helped craft a childhood that was both enviable and wondrous, instilling in us a love of actively participating, art engagement, pet dedication and nature experiences rich with discovery.
