Loved by many for his kindness and generosity. An avid winemaker, woodsman, golfer, reader and dog lover. Ian wandered this world exploring, overcoming challenges and along the way he made lots and lots of friends. He lived and died by the motto “stay positive and make the most of everyday and every situation” He wore many hats throughout his life Father, Husband, Scout master, Board member. Predeceased by his daughter Susan Buck, great love Carla Roche and his beloved dog Fraggle. Survived by his daughters Johanna Sawer and Jocelyn Buck.
Ian was born in Bromley, District of Kent, England and his life travels included years spent growing up in Boston (USA)and Hamilton ONT, serving in Korea, before settling in Vancouver then Chilliwack and eventually Vancouver again.
Ian had a full and blessed life. He loved nature and adventure, and delighted in backpacking the trails of the Chilliwack River Valley with his troop. His driving adventures to Utah, golf trips to Jamaica with Carla, volunteering in various golf tournaments and membership boards throughout his life made him many friends and colleagues. He loved his friends selflessly and his passions were evident in everything he did. Ian adored good food, great people, and fine wines - having won various awards for his own blends. He was always willing to help a friend in need, and lived life to serve others through advocacy, diplomacy, and steady and constant companionship. He will be greatly missed by his family at the Adanac Cooperative Housing Association, his friends and everyone whose life he has touched.
Those close to him would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Germaine and the Palliative care team at Burnaby General hospital, as well as the nursing staff at Cottage Hospice in Vancouver for their excellent care these last months. Celebration of Ian’s Life picnic to be announced at a later date.
