On November 27, 2015, Donella passed away peacefully in her sleep at
Point Grey Private Hospital. She is survived by her sister Grace, nephew Paul (Jacqueline),
neice Sydney (Michael), great nieces and nephews Christie, Marina, Adam
and Simon Sharpe and great-great neices Carter Lynn, Caden and Lila.
Predeceased by her father Archie, mother Mary (both her parents were
born and raised in the Isle of Arran, Scotland, before emigrating to
Winnipeg, Manitoba) sister Wilma, brother-in-law Major Eric Sharpe and
her nephew Dr. Colin Sharpe. Donella grew up in Winnipeg and moved to Vancouver with her mother and sister in 1957. She joined Air Canada in the same year and took early retirement on
January 1st, 1985. During her years with Air Canada, she was involved with
the Vancouver Employee Special Projects Association and
the Air Canada Employee Charitable Foundation.From 1988 - 1991, she was District Director of
the Air Canada Pioneers Association.Throughout her life, Donella had a passion for music and was a member of the Vancouver Bach Choir. For over 50 years she was a member of the Jericho Tennis Club where she loved to play tennis and in later years, enjoyed entertaining her many
friends at ‘the club’.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at
the Point Grey Private Hospital for their care.
Her latter years were brightened by the presence of Mila who took
exceptional care of her at home and who Donella referred to as her
'guardian angel'. She enjoyed visits and lunches with her Air Canada friends and from her
friend Sjaan who visited her often with her favourite treats — coffee
and ice cream. Donella had a very generous heart; she loved to help
people and will be greatly missed.
Her longtime friend Minister Brad Newcombe will be holding a memorial
for Donella at Lakeview Multicultural United Church on January 16th
