Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan, but his parents moved to Florida when he was just a small boy. He attended school in West Palm Beach.
He joined the Navy and served 4 years during the Korean conflict as an Electronics Engineer. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked for the Aerospace Industry for several years.
In 1963 he and Betty were married. He again worked as a Marine Electrician before joining IBM where he worked for 20 years. He built a sail boat and made a number of trips to the Bahamas, almost always under sail. He also did some house building and his great hobby was turning beautiful pieces on the wood turning lathe.
Richard accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1971. He came to faith through the ministry of Hal Lindsay. He and Betty attended First Baptist in West Palm Beach, then later Northwood Baptist, which is now called Village Baptist. He loved his Sunday school class and would get upset if he was running late. He liked to get there early to visit with the class.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Kroon. He is also survived by 5 brothers-in-law: Hartley, Roland, Joseph, David and Jeffrey (one brother in law, Samuel, now deceased); six sisters-in-law: Andrea, Charlotte, Mary Ann, Sharon, Arlene and Phyllis; and many dear nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Elizabeth Kroon and his sister Alice.
