Larry Charles Chandler

Larry Chandler passed away on April 7, 2022, at the age of 82 from complications of aspiration pneumonia. Larry was a charming southern gentleman admired by all who knew him. He was intelligent, loving, fun and funny. He listened, he helped, he mentored. He was kind, wise and understanding. He loved to laugh and did so a lot. He worked hard but was ready to party. He was a great dancer!

He grew up in Atlanta, GA. By his senior year at Roosevelt High School, he was President of his class, Captain of the football team, President of the school bank’s Board of Directors and Lt Governor of the Key Club for the state of Georgia.

He attended University of the South (Sewanee, TN) and was a member of their famed 1958 undefeated, untied football team, now in the Sewanee Hall of Fame. He graduated with a BA in Political Science in 1961 and earned an Executive MBA from Harvard Business School in 1978. After his first degree he served as a pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps (rank of Captain) flying both single engine aircraft and helicopters from 1961 to 1965.

Although he had been accepted at Emory University’s Law School, he decided to head into business. He worked as a sales rep for Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Atlanta for 3 years, and in 1968 headed North. He joined Sealed Air Corporation in New Jersey as Regional Sales Manager for the Southeast; then as General Manager for the Eastern U.S.; In 1976 He moved to Connecticut with the company as Vice President of U.S. Operations and was elected an Officer of the Corporation; in 1980 he became President of Sealed Air’s Global Packaging Products Division and then Executive Vice President of the Corporation. He retired from Sealed Air in 1989 and built a second home in Florida. His first marriage ended in divorce but had produced two wonderful children. In early 1991, after moving back to Atlanta, he became the primary owner of a small business, American Warehouses, Inc. in Houston, TX. They own an 820,000 sq ft facility that warehouses and distributes for the chemical, wood, and industrial metal business. He was Chairman of the Board until he stepped down in 2017, not retiring, just cutting back. In 1991 he met and later married the love of his life, Nancy Craig.

Books and golf were undying passions. He had an enormous library and had read every book in it. He started playing golf while at university. In 1969 he joined Fairington Country Club in Atlanta and became its first Club Champion, setting a course record 68 that lasted until the early 90’s. He was Senior Club Champion in 2001 at Old Marsh Golf Club and on the Board at both Old Marsh Golf Club and Turtle Creek Country Club in Florida.

Larry was predeceased in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel King Chandler, brother Bobby, sister-in-law Mary and cousin, Donnie Edwards. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; daughter Laura (Isa), son Daniel; stepchildren Tony Adamoli (Sue), Paul Adamoli, Randy Adamoli (Alison); grandchildren James, Nick, Josh, Brian, Sarah, Brianna, Lilly, Charlie, Joseph Nick, Khloe; nephews Robbie Chandler (Diane), Scott Palmer (Kristy), nieces Kim Burel; Kerry Drake (David), Kim Moore (Sam), Cassie Craig, great nieces and nephews, Alex, Kayla, Zach, Christopher, Ted, Jake, Jillian, Savanah, Sophie, LyRyah, Poppy, Abby; honorary relatives, John Czarnetzky (Sylvia), Kathy Hogle.

Larry enjoyed nothing more than being with friends. He will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Monday April 25, at 2:30 PM at Jupiter First Church, 1475 Indian Creek Parkway, Jupiter, FL.
