He immediately enlisted in the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army. Captain Kim worked as a surgeon in a ROK Military Hospital then worked with American Forces administering anesthesia in a US mobile army surgical hospital (MASH). After the war, Dr. Kim went to Boston, MA for a residency in anesthesiology. Dr. Kim always intended to go back to Korea to start an anesthesia department for the ROK army but was discharged from the ROK Army and then could no longer set up an anesthesia department with them. He stayed in the United States and fell in love with and married Ellenor Duffield Clegg. Dr. & Mrs. Kim moved to Milwaukee WI where he started the anesthesia department and the ICU at St. Michael Hospital. He was the Chief of Anesthesia at St. Michael Hospital for over 40 years until his retirement in 2001. After his retirement in 2001, Dr. Kim moved to Singer Island FL. Dr. Kim did not like retirement and got a job as an anesthesiologist at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center where he worked for 14 years. While there, Dr. Kim was awarded Doctor of the Year.
